Scope
Geological Challenges and standard approaches towards planning and drilling a well with overly ambitious trajectories led to lack of proper isolation behind the 13 3/8” and 9 5/8” casings on this well. A top squeeze job was performed(and failed to create a seal), rendering the 9 5/8” casing un-retrievable unless milled. Deploying the new MedusaTM technology for the first time in the North Sea provided the solution to the issue and allowed for abandonment of the well in a cost efficient manner.
Operator Challenges
Upper abandonment required 3 permanent cement plugs to be set behind the 13-3/8” casing: 2×100’plugs set at 4,500’, 60 degrees deviation in open hole outside of the external casing 1 x 230’ plug at 1,100’, zero degreesdeviation in 18-5/8” casing outside of the external casing

Abrado applied the use of 3 different proprietary Medusa VS section milling tools to achieve successful results which included the Abrado 5.50” and 7 3/4” OD Medusa VS Section Mills and the Abrado 8 1/8” OD CSM 1000.
