Hose that for a solution!

Hose that for a solution!

Romar-Abrado, advanced milling and SWARF handling specialists, have collaborated with the Aberdeen Grampian Chamber of Commerce to find a circular solution for waste workshop material.

With a large number of hoses to dispose of, Romar-Abrado were keen to ensure this didn’t end up in landfill. Taking a circular economy approach to this conundrum, the team liaised with the chamber to find a suitor for the unwanted material.

Although an obscure request, with support from chamber Relationship Manager Suzanne Todd, the hoses have found a new home with Wood RecylAbility – a local social enterprise that offers adults with additional support needs genuine training and employment opportunities by crafting products from recycled wood. The social enterprise will repurpose the discarded hoses to support the creation of an outdoor classroom for Methlick primary school and harbour bollards for a company based in Denbighshire.

It just so happens that Romar-Abrado has previously worked with Wood RecylAbility to create and distribute bugs hotels to support local biodiversity. This is a true full-circle moment for the organisations – both figuratively and practically!

Sean Burrows, Romar-Abrado Repair and Maintenance Manager commented: “We’re always looking for innovative ways to repurpose our workshop waste. It’s vital that we see less and less of our obsolete material in landfill, and with the chamber’s support, we’ve found the perfect solution. I’m pleased to have another opportunity to collaborate with Wood RecylAbility; better yet, our waste can support a local community project – it’s a win-win scenario.”
