In partnership with a major North Sea operator, ABRADO successfully delivered an oil well abandonment milestone.

Abrado’s MEDUSA™ Dual String Section Milling service cut a window in 20-inch 94# casing and polished the inside of the outer 30-inch casing.

Requiring custom built purpose-specific tools, the seamed 30-inch casing with tapered collars was precision honed & ideally prepared for the special barrier plug.

Driven by OPERATIONS EXCELLENCE methodology, the first well, part of a substantial multi-well abandonment project, was delivered ahead of schedule and with zero NPT.

The milling and polishing operation enabled a permanent gas tight environmental barrier to be installed by BiSN.

The ABRADO team optimized torque and weight application for efficient mechanical energy transfer and vibration dampening. The strategy delivered outstanding performance for this swarf-less milling operation.
